CFA: Legislative Alert - California SB250

We have been waiting for the most recent amendment to California SB 250, which mandates sterilization of most dogs and cats in California. The amendment was finally posted on 5/28/09. By using existing local animal control agencies, the amendment purports to avoid state reimbursement for the state-mandated local program being imposed on local governments. However, all of the substantive objections to SB 250 remain the same. It would have a devastating impact on dog breeders and on feral cat caretakers working to fix the problems.

Over the past few days a number of people and groups have been urging everyone to contact the CA Senators to oppose the bill. This may not have been effective since some Senators may believe the new amendments would resolve objections by constituents who opposed SB 250 prior to the changes.

IMMEDIATE ACTION IS NEEDED from individuals, clubs and organizations.
The vote could be as early as Monday, June 1st !

CALL ALL 39 California Senators TODAY (there is one vacant office).

ASK them to oppose SB 250 AS AMENDED 5/28/09.

If you live in California, please be sure to stress to your Senator that you are a constituent and you ask him/her to vote NO on the bill AS AMENDED 5/28/09. To find out your CA State Senator (remember, this is currently in the Senate, not the Assembly) go to: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html

If you called over the past few days, before the amendment was filed, please *call again* to let them know that the amendment did not resolve your objections. Calls made before the 5/28/09 amendment, or made now without mentioning the amendment, may be disregarded by the Senators.

However, it is not important to make speeches at this point. It is enough to call the Senators and state that you OPPOSE SB 250 AS AMENDED 5/28/09. Some Senators have public e-mail addresses, some do not but allow constituents to submit comments on their web sites.
